Doing All Things

I was told recently that no one would know that I wrote a book about life in recovery. No one would know that Lee and I got married 30 years ago this December 8 just 2 years clean and sober and had seven sons. No one would know about me finding my fourth oldest dead of a heroin overdose at age 20 on October 22, 2016 at 2:07 pm. He was a junior in electrical engineering with a 3.4 GPA. No one was going to give a damn about my story unless I blogged and got the message out there.

But the thing I heard was that no one would care.

Well I care. I care about everyone who is struggling to find their way in this world as I was and am. I care if you are homeless, or an addict, or grieving. And I can tell you that with God their is a way. There is Hope. There is Peace. I know because I have been through it and am still going through it.

2:07 pm passed again today. It was a Saturday like today. Again I looked at my watch. Again Lee texted me a photo of the grave marker and the fresh purple flowers she placed. I know your pain.

And I know this: I am not who I used to be. And neither are you. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.

So I will start blogging. Because I didn’t write this book for me. I wrote it for you.

“If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.” C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

But first live your life. I have decided to live mine, and live it to the fullest because of what God has done for me through Christ Jesus.

So read the book. And live your life. You can do all things through Christ who will strengthen you.
