HOW DO YOU FIND GOD WHILE BEING BUFFETED BY LIFE, LOSS, TEMPTATION, INJUSTICE, AND SIN? You don’t. God finds you.
This was a lesson learned by Frank Shaw. He grew up with love, faith, and financial security only to fall to the furthest depths of addiction and sin. At his lowest, after spending much of his life searching for meaning in drugs, alcohol, and soulless sex, and with all other options exhausted, he reached out to God.
God in His infinite wisdom, mercy, and grace responded. In this moment of supplication, when no other remedy had worked, Frank’s heart changed. If only Frank had opened his eyes to the Signals of Transcendence, he would have known that God was there all along.
With his faith restored and a desire to follow the example of Jesus, blessings came to Frank as God did for him what he could not do on his own. Love and marriage, happiness, trust, and an abiding desire to be of service entered his life. God’s blessing also included seven sons, and with them came both frustration and all the boundless contentment one would expect and hope for.
With all the good came a series of torments flood, fire, tragedy, and the death of his parents and a child—that would test any man. In the end there is the hope that comes from trusting and following a loving God.
Frank’s story is more than just a story of rebirth, transformation, and resilience. With wisdom and an irreverent wit, Frank explores the unusual challenges encountered in marriage, after recovery and seven sons, life as a New Orleans lawyer, his singular midlife crisis (that led to meeting Patricia Heaton), and where and
how God can be found.
Frank’s is a story of trusting our sovereign God who has all things in His hands, both life and death. It is funny, sad, and inspiring, and filled with the hope and recognition that without God he is nothing.
